Course Description:
The course is designed for those interested in female private eyes, who have played an important role in crime fictions yet are often overshadowed by their counterparts. As the introduction of novels would be closely connected to different stages of feminism, students taking this course should have already had a general picture of feminism and understanding of male images in mainstream detective fictions. Therefore we are able to discuss the major differences between male and female detectives, the issues they tackle, the relationships they have respectively, and more importantly, how they are represented in translated works. Students are expected to read various novels for classroom discussion with translation assignments. Hence they are encouraged to read the required fictions before the course starts.
